As a rough guide, a typical 3-bedroom home using around 3,500 kWh per year is well served by a 10–12 panel system. Yes — solar panels work on daylight, not direct sunshine, so they generate electricity even on overcast days. The UK receives enough solar irradiance to make panels economically worthwhile for the vast majority of homeowners. Merseyside averages around 950–1,050 peak sun hours per year — lower than the south of England, but more than enough for solar to be cost-effective. Output is naturally higher in summer and lower in winter, but the annual average is consistent and delivers the savings we project when we survey your home.
Most solar panel installations are completed in a single day. Our team erects any required scaffolding, fits the mounting rails, clips on the panels, runs DC cables to the inverter, connects the inverter to your consumer unit, and commissions everything before they leave. Larger systems or installs requiring consumer unit upgrades may take two days. We'll always give you a clear timeframe when we survey your property.
In the vast majority of cases, no. Solar panels on a standard residential roof fall under Permitted Development rights. Exceptions include listed buildings, properties in certain conservation areas, and situations where panels would project above the roof ridge. If your property has any of these characteristics, we check the specific rules as part of our pre-installation process — at no charge — and advise you before you commit to anything.
Solar panels are very low-maintenance. They have no moving parts and are largely self-cleaning — rain washes away most dust and bird droppings. We recommend a visual check every couple of years and a panel clean if you notice a noticeable drop in output. The monitoring app we set up lets you track daily generation, so any underperformance is easy to spot. Inverters may need replacing after 10–15 years, but this is a straightforward, low-cost job.
Absolutely. Every system we install is battery-ready, meaning the wiring is set up so adding storage later is a clean, quick job. Many customers add a battery months or years after their panels go on — spreading the cost is a great approach. Adding storage means you stop exporting electricity at low rates and buying it back at peak rates, which significantly improves the system's overall payback.
